Burlington, IA – Burlington residents are lining up to fill a vacancy on the city council.
John Fenton, James Ritters, and Chuck Griffin have each filed a letter of intent.
City Clerk Kathleen Salisbury says other interested parties must file the necessary paperwork with her office by 5:00 Wednesday afternoon.
She says the city council will interview candidates on Monday, June 25 and could name a replacement July 2.
The appointee will replace former mayor and council member Mike Edwards, who unexpectedly resigned last week.
Salisbury says the person would serve until after the November general election.
Three seats will be up for grabs on the Burlington City Council during that election: 2 four-year seats and the un-expired 2-year term previously held by Edwards.
Salisbury say the city council is also expected to select a new mayor, from within its ranks, on July 2.
