Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk School Board has once again dropped the asking price for the land where the district's old Middle School once stood.
The board voted 5-2, last night, to cut the asking price for the Main Street property to $550,000.
Board President Jim Vandenberg says commercial properties around Keokuk have been selling for between $300,000 and $400,000.
He says that means lowering the district's asking price could entice potential buyers.
The district paid $300,000 in 2004 to tear the old middle school down.
The original price for the property, without the building, was $862,500.
In late 2006, the asking price was reduced to $750,000.

* A local coalition offered to pay the district $50,000 for the property when the school was still standing.
