Carthage, IL – A special Hancock County Board meeting could pick a firm to do the billing for the county's ambulance service.
Health and Miscellaneous Committee Chairman Ken Nudd says the county last month ended an agreement with a firm called Intermedix that had been doing the billing for ambulance runs.
He say since then, the bills have been accumulating, and will be turned over to whichever agency the county chooses to do its billing.
The County Clerk's office estimates more than $250,000 in back bills are still outstanding for previous calls. That would be in addition to money owed to the county while bills were not being sent out.
Nudd says the special county board meeting Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. will also hear presentations from at least three private ambulance firms who would like to provide the service.
Board member Joe Stevenson has been contacting firms in the hopes that at least one of them could provide a county-wide ambulance service at a lower cost then the current individual volunteer departments.
Stevenson says he is also trying to investigate other ways of arranging for the service. He says that task has been complicated by the withdrawal of the LaHarpe and Nauvoo services from the countywide system.
