Burlington, IA – Those seeking to fill the vacant seat on the Burlington City Council are getting an opportunity to make their case to serve the city.
The first item of business for aldermen, during this week's workshop, is interviewing the eight men who expressed an interest in replacing former mayor and council member Mike Edwards.
Edwards resigned earlier this month.
The field includes candidates with school, county, and city government experience.
The council is expected to name its new member during its July Second meeting.
Edwards' seat will be up for grabs in November.
The appointee would hold the post until the votes from the general election are canvassed.
A new mayor will be also appointed July 2.
In Burlington, the council picks one of its own members to serve in that post.
City Clerk Kathleen Salisbury says this afternoon's meeting is being televised on channel 18 in Burlington.
