Funding Gap Delays Housing

Beardstown, IL – An affordable housng project in Beardstown needs to close a financing gap before it can get underway.

The $3.4 million development is being planned by MCS Community Services of Jacksonville. The group's director Don Little says about $3 million has been secured.

He says his organization is working on several grant agencies which could help provide the missing funds.

He says they could also work with the city for help with extending water and sewer lines to the site.

Little says the project will have 21 homes. His group is working with contractors to lower the bids that have been submitted on the project.

He says if the financing gap is closed, construction could begin on the project late this fall.
