Macomb, IL – A school detachment suit that began more than one year ago is being sent back to the McDonough-Hancock Regional school board.
Judge Richard Gambrell issued a letter ruling saying the original finding by the board did not specify that it had jurisdiction over the territory in question.
He says the board should determine if it has jurisdiction, and then notify him. Then he can issue another ruling on the case.
McDonough County State's Attorney James Hoyle says in another matter, a Schuyler County judge believed the territory was within the influence of the McDonough - Hancock Regional Board of Education.
He says he'll recommend that the board incorporate that into its file on the case.
The Schuyler-Industry school district believes the hearing should have been held before the Fulton-Schuyler Regional Board of Trustees. That issue has not yet been ruled on.
McDonough - Hancock Regional Superintendent Gary Eddington could not be reached regarding what action his office will take.
