Raven's Grin

June 29, 2007 – Reporter Tyson Terhune's series Tri States Day Trips comes to a spooky conclusion with a trip to a haunted house that's open all year 'round.

But ghostly legends are just part of the bargain at Raven's Grin, which can be found on the edge of the town of Mount Carroll. The outside of the house is covered with eclectic art work. The ticket gate is a taxi cab door fastened to the side of the house. There is a UFO on the roof. Other oddities give the impression that it's more of a funhouse than a haunted house.

The person behind Raven's Grin is Jim Warfield. He's the owner, creator, and occupant of Raven's Grin.

It's an understatement to say Warfield is a bit of a showman. He knows how to work a crowd and adjust the content of his delivery for different audiences, making every tour unique.

Raven's Grin is about two-and-a-half hours north of Macomb. Admission is $12.00 for the tour, which usually lasts about one-and-a-half hours.

The series Tri States Day Trips was broadcast on Tri States Public Radio on Fridays in June during the 7:30am and 4:30pm newscasts.
