Macomb, IL – McDonough County Tax Bills could be in the mail within three weeks, with the first payments likely due in August.
County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes says she has received the assessment valuations for Hancock County. That's the last set of figures she was waiting for.
She says the values for other counties are needed to figure the tax rates for districts that go beyond the McDonough County borders. Those would include junior college, fire, school or library districts.
DeJaynes says units of McDonough County local government will have five days to check for any discrepancies.
Then the figures go to the treasurer's office. There, Treasurer Angela Graves has said it could take up to two weeks for he tax bills to be printed and put into the mail.
Supervisor of Assessments Tammy Camp says the figuring of tax values is late throughout much of rural Illinois because of changes in how farmland value is figured.
She says the new method depends on soil type and on a multiplier figure issued by the University of Illinois. It also requires each county to have a computerized Geographic Information System in place.
