Keokuk, IA – Keokuk could eliminate the need for a city clerk by hiring a city administrator.
The Finance Sub-Committee is recommending the two posts be combined.
Mayor Dave Gudgel says current City Clerk Donna Eilers is planning to retire at the end of the calendar year.
He says Keokuk could use her salary and money from several funds, including sewer, sanitation, and bridges, to pay for an administrator slash clerk.
Gudgel says the goal is to have someone in place no later than October.
Gudgel says the sub-committee also believes an administrator should report to the mayor and the city council and every department should report to the administrator.
He says the job description is currently in committee and the city council will use its entire July 12 workshop to discuss the post.
