Nauvoo, IL – Nauvoo's mayor is getting a head start on some of the elements of the new Comprehensive Plan the city is developing.
Durrell Nelson is a member of what's informally being called the Nauvoo Betterment Committee.
He says the group was appointed by the Mayor to begin work on some of the smaller projects that were mentioned in the comprehensive plan.
The group is charged with linking volunteers with the community needs. He says these could include bike paths, hiking trails or an appropriate facade for the city building.
Nelson says the group might also help volunteers find some of the financing for projects.
He believes some of the tasks will be tackled by scouts seeking a public service project for their Eagle Scout badge.
Others are more likely to be undertaken by a community service group willing to tackle a major project with a higher cost.
He says the goal is to free other groups to tackle some of the major efforts that might be called for in the comprehensive plan.
