Carts & Containers

Macomb, IL – Macomb might require a cart system to be part of its next solid waste disposal contract. The carts are large garbage containers on wheels that residents could easily roll out to the curb.

The contractor would be required to provide one trash container cart per house and another cart for recyclables.

The city's pact with Waste Management expired May 1. The contract was extended while the city continued to review the items it might like to include in the next agreement.

Sixth Ward Alderman Tim Lobdell hopes the contract goes out to bid soon. He hopes the process can be completed by the beginning of September.

Additional information:

*The city could require the trash carts to hold as much as 96 gallons. That's equivalent to about three of the current containers. The cart for recyclables could be 35 gallons, which is larger than what's now used.

*The new waste disposal contract will also contain provisions to continue the popular citywide cleanup and yard waste disposal programs.

*Lobdell says there are at least three companies in the area that could submit bids on the contract.
