Carthage, IL – The Carthage school board has given the Sports Booster Club permission to build a weight room on school property near the ball field.
Superintendent Vicky Hardy says with students from three towns using the high school building, it did not have enough room to keep its weight-training facilities.
She says the club wanted to keep that training available to the high school students, so it will use volunteer labor to construct the building.
Hardy says construction will begin this year and should be completed by next fall. The Sports Booster Club will pay the costs and provide the labor.
Equipment will be transferred from the present high school to the new structure when it's finished.
The Illini West High School will include students from Carthage, Dallas City and LaHarpe.
