Nauvoo, IL – Nauvoo aldermen have clarified the rules regarding keeping old cars in a residential area.
Mayor John McCarty says there had been questions about what was allowed that were not answered in the previous ordinance.
He says there had also been questions regarding junk cars and non-operating vehicles.
He says some people improperly believed that the vehicles they were working on were not covered by the regulations ... or should have been exempt.
McCarty says aldermen studied similar ordinances from other towns before updating the regulations. He described the changes as "tweaking" the existing regulations. He said some of the changes were complaint-driven.
He says provisions were made for antique cars that are being restored.
There's also a longer, detailed list of what types of vehicles are covered and which should be stored or kept out of view.

The vehicle regulations are part of the town's nuisance ordinances.
McCarty says the ordinance will be revisited in a year or more for possible updating.
