Macomb, IL – Final assessment figures show the overall value of McDonough County's taxable property is up about two-and-a-half percent.
County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes says the increasing value of residential property offset the decreasing value of much of the county's farmland.
The value of residential property was up by $8.8 million to almost $153 million.
However, DeJaynes says changes in the way farmland is assessed brought down its value, on the average. Farmland value dopped by about $4.4 million to $75.16 million.
DeJaynes says that means townships which do not include cities or villages will receive less property tax income.
Countywide, the value of commercial property increased by about six percent to more than $58.5 million. However, the value of industrial property fell slightly.
The new taxable value of the county is $295.8 million dollars.
