Macomb, IL – Macomb's property maintenance inspector resigned, though it does not sound like he wanted to do so.
In his retirement letter, Bayne Sims says he suffered a work-related injury in February. He's not been able to work since then and he says a letter late last month from the city's law firm indicated his employment would be terminated.
Sims says he's extremely disappointed. Sims says his decision to apply for retirement benefits is based solely on the city's decision to terminate him.

*Mayor Pro-Tem and Fifth Ward Alderman Tim Lobdell says it's an unfortunate situation, but adds Sims was simply unable to return to his duties. Lobdell says the city needs to move forward with its property code enforcement efforts.
*The city council accepted Sims' retirement letter this week. It also hired Mitchell Flynn to replace him.
Lobdell Criticizes Some Aldermen
Also this week, Lobdell said he's disappointed with some of his fellow city council members. Lobdell says they should not have attended last week's planning commission meeting. He feels the panel should have been allowed to review a controversial ordinance without those aldermen present. Lobdell says the situation turned into a "fiasco." The ordinance would have required driveways and parking lots to be paved.
