Council to Consider Long-Term Gas Purchase

Bushnell, IL – The Bushnell Municipal Utility Board will be costing out a possible long-term purchase of natural gas.

Mayor Steve Russell says the IPEA has offered the city the chance to join with other municipal utilities to lock in gas prices.

Russell says the advantage of a long-term contract is that the city would not have to pay taxes on its purchase.

He says this, plus the advantages of a long-term agreement, could help lower the price to users.

Russell says the Utility Board will have to evaluate possible savings at its meeting next month. He says a recommendation is expected at a council meeting in September.

He says a contract for 10 or 20 years is a possibility. He says the city would likely contract for somewhere between one-half and three-fourths of its expected needs.
