Macomb, IL – McDonough County's audit for the year ending last Nov. 30 shows a slow improvement in its end-of-year balances.
Auditor Russ Courter says the county ended the last fiscal year with more than two-and-a-half months' spending in its general fund. The previous year, the county had less than two months' spending on hand.
Courter told county leaders they should work toward having at least four months spending in their general fund at year's end.
He said that would cushion the county against a slowdown or delay in sales or use tax income from the state.
He also recommended more separation of duties between those who receive cash and those who balance a cash drawer or cash accounts.
Finance Committee Chairwoman Alice Henry says most of those recommendations have already been implemented.
The board also approved a three-year contract withi its Federation of Police Lodge that covers workers in the Sheriff's Department.
It includes raises of 4, 3 and 3 percent each year. It also requires that the deparment supply protective vests for jail workers.
