Macomb, IL – An ad hoc committee of the McDonough County Board met to discuss a county administrator without giving notice.
The group is studying the idea of creating a county administrator.
Chairwoman Linda Jani says the failure to give notice was "an oversight."
She says the agenda was posted outside the county board office on the third floor of the courthouse. However, she had not asked that it be included on the monthly schedule of meetings issued by the county board's administrator.
State's Attorney James Hoyle says he believes the meeting should have been publicized in keeping with the intention of the Illinois Open Meetings Act. He says the goal is to let the public know what's being discussed, when and where.
The committee discussed wording of a job description for a county administrator's position .
Jani says the committee was charged with investigating the idea of the position. It could make a recommendation to the full board this fall.
She says the main thrust of the position would be long-range planning. She says the county runs well day-to-day, but no one specifically focuses on long-term planning.
Still not settled is whether the county can afford the position. Jani says it has not been budgeted for in the current fiscal year.
