Fort Madison, IA – Testing is still underway on land the Fort Madison School District hopes to purchase for a potential school building.
Superintendent Ken Marang says soil and water testing could be completed within the next 10 days on roughly 100 acres of land just west of the city.
A 110,000 square-foot kindergarten through 8th grade school building would be built on the property if voters approve a $16,000,000 bond referendum in October.
Once the testing is done, Marang says negotiations will move to the next level.
He says the district needs to secure the property before a community panel begins to promote the proposal.
Marang does not believe Lee County's Jail expansion bond referendum will impact the Fort Madison School District's efforts because he feels both projects are needed.
