Deadly Keokuk Fire An Accident

Keokuk, IA – The fire that killed two children in Keokuk has been ruled an accident.

Fire Chief Mark Wessel says the May 15th fire at the corner of 13th and Fulton started in or near the couch in the living room.

He says the investigation was not conclusive, though, when it comes to the actual cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.

Dylan White, 4, and Elizabeth White, 2, died from smoke inhalation while another child, Dalton White, 6, escaped uninjured.

The children's parents, Joyce Boley, 25, and Matthew White, 34, also survived the fire but each were seriously burned.

Wessel says the house did not have electrical service but there were lit candles and possibly cigarettes in the home.

He says the investigation into the fire is now complete.
