Montrose, IA – One Southeast Iowa community is in the market for a new police chief.
Montrose Police Chief Brent Shipman is stepping down, after two years on the job, effective Monday, August 13th.
The 23-year-old says he is leaving to join another department and continue his education though he would not elaborate on where his new job would be.
The Montrose City Council is scheduled to acknowledge Shipman's resignation during its meeting Thursday night and discuss future plans.
That could include whether Shipman must reimburse the city for training expenses.
A clause in the city's job description for police chief states that the employee must work for the city for five years, after certification, or pay back training costs.
City Clerk Celeste Cirinna says that could be more than $12,000 for Shipman, who is Montrose's only certified officer.
The city employs four part-time officers.
