Macomb, IL – An unpopular law has been swept off the books in Macomb.
The dustless surfaces ordinance required driveways and other off-street parking areas to be paved.
Enforcement was scheduled to begin in November, but the city council unanimously agreed to repeal it. However, it will still apply to driveways and parking lots built since the law was enacted in 1997.
Sixth Ward Alderman Tim Lobdell believes the issue will come up again. He says it needs to be addressed for the long-term health of the community. He urged residents to be vigilant about sharing their input.

*In repealing the law, the city council went along with the recommendation from the planning commission. That panel took its vote last month.
*Mayor Mick Wisslead says the city needs to review its entire Unified Development Code. He says it contains some gaps. He hopes that discussion can begin within the next six to nine months.
