Macomb, IL – McDonough County's Supervisor of Assessments wants extra funding to help bring records up to date.
Tammy Camp says she needs to hire someone to visit about 3,400 rural homes to sketch the homesite dimentions and take a photo.
Camp says the updated records are needed to help defend property tax appeals, both at the local and state level.
She says record cards on urban homes, along with commercial and industrial properties, are already current.
However, she says the continuing construction or remodeling of rural homes has made it impossible to keep those files up to date.
Camp estimates it could take up to $136,000 for someone to do the job at $40 per homesite.
She says that's the estimate she has received from other counties for similar work.
Her request will be passed on to the county's Finance Committee, which is preparing the budget for the fiscal year beginning Dec. 1.
