Fort Madison, IA – A major expansion at the Great River Regional Waste Authority's Fort Madison landfill has cleared a couple of big hurdles.
Chairman Bob Woodruff says the Federal Aviation Administration has approved the waste authority's construction plans for a new trash containment cell.
He says the go-ahead was needed because of the landfill's proximity to the Fort Madison Municipal Airport.Woodruff says then the Iowa Department of Natural Resources approved the construction permits.
Woodruff says the roughly $1,000,000 cell should be finished by early October and have a lifespan of 3 years.
He says the waste authority's goal is to add several more cells over the next few years.
