Hamilton, IL – A number of Hamilton residents could be in line for some good news when it comes to their flood insurance coverage.
After more than six years, Hamilton's new 100-year flood plain map could be finished in the next couple of months.
The current document, which has been in place for more than 25-years, did not show a lot of detail so many residents were forced to obtain insurance because their homes appeared to be in the flood plain.
Mayor Steve Woodruff says the new map will be much more precise.
He says it should drastically reduces the number of households that will need to carry flood insurance.
The city and the federal government shared the cost of the map upgrade.
