Lewistown, IL – Illinois' Senior U.S. Senator says the issues involving immigration in the country need a lot more work.
Dick Durbin says the situation in Beardstown with workers at the Cargill plant show what must still be done.
He says without the undocumented workers the plant might not be able to stay open. He says the same applies to some Chicago hotels, or to restaurants which are often staffed by people who entered the country illegally.
He says sending all undocumented aliens back is not the answer, but the answer is yet to be found.
Durbin believes the $7 billion recently appropriated for better border security will help cut down on the number of people entering the country illegally.
He says another part of the equation is to hold employers responsible for making sure all workers are in the country legally.
He says having employers gain access to federal databases will help make sure workers are in the country legally.
