Keokuk, IA – Keokuk is making its pitch to receive more time for a $50,000,000+ sewer system renovation.
Keokuk is one of ten cities in Iowa that must seperate their storm-water and sanitary sewer systems to eliminate overflows and bypasses.
Consulting Engineer Ted Payseur says the federal government is giving cities around 10 to 15 years to complete the projects.
He says Keokuk's best case scenario would be 30-years.
To make its case, city leaders presented EPA and DNR represenatives with financial and demographic information and took them on a tour of Keokuk.
Payseur says the city should find out how many years it will have for the project before November first.
