Kirkwood, IL – Volunteers and road crews are cleaning debris from Kirkwood after strong winds damaged buildings, trees and crops.
The National Weather Service says winds around 100 mph hit the town between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday.
Village Clerk Donna Cunningham says some roofs were torn off, small buildings were damaged, and the village lost part of one wall of the water treatment plant.
However, she says most of the damage was to the large, old trees around the town.
ESDA Director Aaron Winski< says township, county and IDoT crews have been clearing the streets and home lots of debris.
He says the winds tore through Kirkwood, clipped part of Monmouth and did damage all the way to Cameron.
He says both corn and soybean crops in its path were damaged.
At one time, Ameren CIPS estimated power was cut off to about 28,000 customers in the region. Power has been restored to most, and the others are expected to be back on soon.
Winski says Ameren has told him all of the feeder power lines have been restored, and crews are re-hooking up the individual houses.
