Carthage, IL – An ad hoc group working for a bicycle trail in Carthage plans to file its application this fall.
Community Developer Brenda Pyatt says the group is working on getting easements for the trail between the downtown district and the town park on the northwest side of the town.
She says the goal is to bring the trail from downtown to a two-mile loop around the lake.
She says the trail would also connect to the Joseph Smith Martyrdom Trail. She says that's the path between Nauvoo and Carthage that Joseph Smith traveled when he had business in the county seat.
The group is applying for grant money from the Illinois Department of Transportation Enhancement Fund program.
