Candidates File In Burlington

Burlington, IA – The field has been set for Burlington's city primary.

Three of the five seats on the Burlington City Council are up for grabs this year.

Nine candidates have filed the necessary paperwork to run.

Three men want to serve out the final two years in the term of former Mayor Mike Edwards, who resigned earlier this year.

Residents will vote for one of the three on October 9 and the top two finishers will move on to the November election.

Six men are vying for two open seats on the city council.

Mayor Bill Ell
Aldermen Mike Campbell
Alderman Matt Murray (Replaced Edwards in July)
John Fenton
Duane Sourwine
Chuck Griffin.

Voters will pick two of these candidates in October and the top four will move on to November.

The mayor's race is also open because the Burlington City Council chooses one of its own as Mayor.

In this case, Ell was appointed to replace Edwards and he will serve until the new council is seated.
