Carthage, IL – The Hancock County Health Department will test its ability to medicate all of the county's residents later this month.
Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Victoria Roberts says the exercise wold be a drill for distributing medications in case of a hepatitis outbreak or a bioterrorism threat.
The exercise will be at the Hancock County fairground near Augusta Sept. 19 from 1:30 to 3:30.
Roberts says volunteers who participate will be asked to fill out an information form; then will be given a bag of candy in lieu of medication.
She says from similar previous exercises, they have learned the need for having extra security to deal with belligerent or combative patients.
Other issues to be worked with include traffic control.
Roberts says a post-exercise evaluation will probably be scheduled within a week after the drill.
Other agencies taking part include will include fire departments, the county ESDA organization and Memorial Hospital.
