Macomb, IL – Collections on old debts might be the first way for McDonough County to increase its revenue stream.
Finance Committee Chairwoman Alice Henry says all departments were asked to find ways to increase their revenue.
She says the main option presented has been to increase the price of marriage licenses to $40.
County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes says that's the only fee in her office she can increase without doing a cost study. She says one has been done on marriage licenses which showed they could be increased to $40 to cover the time involved.
However, Henry says both the State's Attorney's office and the Circuit Clerk have programs underway to collect on money owed to the county.
Circuit Clerk Kim Wilson says her office has already collected more than $28,000 on outstanding traffic tickets.
She says the program will be extended to collect money owed on misdemeanor and felony cases.
