Macomb, IL – McDonough County will be asked to join an effort to gain better funding for veterans' medical costs.
The county board's Law and Legal Committee will ask the full board to approve an advisory referendum that could be on the February primary election ballot.
Committee Chairman John Lawson says veterans "numbering in the hundreds" are being discharged as unfit for military service.
However, the federal government is not funding sufficient medical care for them.
Lawson says the "Mandatory Funding for Veterans Health Care" referendum would ask the federal government to provide full funding for medical care.
Lawson says the goal is to put pressure on Congressmen and Senators.
