Governor Says New Jobs Likely For Iowa

Husum Wind Conference, Germany – Iowa's governor says his state could be in line for hundreds or even thousands of new jobs related to wind energy.

In the last two years, three major wind turbine manufacturers have located in Iowa.

That includes Siemens Wind Generation's wind turbine blade producing plant in Fort Madison.

With those industries in place, Governor Chet Culver says Iowa is now reaching out to the companies that produce the parts needed to build a wind turbine.

He believes his current trip to Europe will yield at least one or two major announcements, and many new jobs, in the near future.

He will meet directly with 18 companies in Germany, Spain, and Denmark during this trip.

Additional Information
* Culver says the wind turbine producing companies in Iowa need easy access to the more than 800 parts needed to make their products.

* Governor Culver is the only elected leader from the United States to be given the opportunity to address the Husum Wind Conference in Germany.
