Macomb, IL – The book Laurel Canyon explores the influence that southern California neighborhood had on the music world in the mid to late 60s. The book was written by Michael Walker, who will visit Macomb to talk about what he found.
Walker will give a multi-media presentation on Wednesday September 19 at 3:00 pm in the Sandburg Theater of the University Union at Western. It will include outtakes of interviews with some of the musicians.
Later in the day, Walker will head to New Copperfield's Book Service on Macomb's Courthouse Square for a book signing session. It begins at 5:00 pm.
Some of the musicians who spent time in the legendary Laurel Canyon neighborhood include Cass Elliot, Frank Zappa, the Byrds, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Joni Mitchell, Steppenwolf, the Turtles, and the Monkees.

*Walker grew up in Chicago but now lives in Laurel Canyon. He's written about pop culture for a number of newspapers. Laurel Canyon is his first book.
*Many of the struggling but soon-to-be-famous musicians were drawn to Laurel Canyon by the cheap rents. The music scene began to fall apart when some of them made a lot of money and moved out. Violence and hard drugs also led to its downfall.
