Fort Madison, IA – Supporters of building a new multi-million dollar K-8 school in Fort Madison are starting to get the word out about why the facility is needed.
The organization, Building for Success, will hold four public meetings prior to the special bond referendum October 16.
Voters will be asked to allow the Fort Madison School District to borrow up to $16,000,000 to pay for a new school building that would replace Fort Madison Middle School and Denmark Elementary School.
Chairman Marty Dean says the current facilities have just outlived their usefulness.
Dean says the public's money would be better spent in building a new school that would last much longer.
If the borrowing plan is approved, the new school would be built on the city's Northwest side.
