Burlington, IA – The head of the Burlington School District says verbal or written threats, such as one discovered over the weekend, will not be taken lightly.
Superintendent Lee Morrison hopes students with information as to who wrote a threatening message in a restroom at Burlington High School will come forward.
He says the building was thoroughly searched and deemed safe after the phrase Boom 9-24-2007 was discovered by a custodian Friday evening.
Morrison says the district will do whatever it takes to keep kids safe and secure while they are at school.
Several students were expelled this past spring after written threats were found at a handful of school buildings in Burlington.
Morrison expects the same punishment for those connected with this latest threat.
He says security tapes are being reviewed to see who was around the bathroom in question at the end of the school day on Friday.
Additional Information
* In response to the written threat, Burlington High School operated in partial lock-down mode Monday.
* Morrison says access to the building was limited to one entrance and hallway travel was supervised.
* He says very few students were not in class when the bell rang for first period at Burlington High School today.
