West Point, IA – Clean-up is nearly complete at Holy Trinity Elementary School following an act of vandalism over the weekend.
That means displaced students will be able to return to classes in West Point Wednesday.
Principal Donna McVeigh says parents and students have been among those working day and night to clean up the mess caused by someone spraying several classrooms with fire extinguishers.
She says 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students had to miss the first two days of class this week because everything in a half dozen rooms had to be thoroughly cleaned.
McVeigh says the incident occurred sometime between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, when a teacher discovered the mess.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department and the West Point Police Department are investigating the vandalism.
