Keokuk, IA – Keokuk residents will see an increase in their water bills at the start of the new year.
The money generated will be used to replace the city's aging water-distribution system.
Keokuk Waterworks Manager Bill Cole says a $3.00 service charge will be added to water bills for residents, businesses, and industries starting January 1.
He says the cost of water will also go up for those using more than 15,000 gallons per month... or three times what he says an average family would use.
Cole says replacing the pipes that carry Keokuk's drinking water will be costly.
He says the last water rate hike was in January 2003.
