Keokuk, IA – The new head of the Keokuk School Board says he would favor opening up the panel's meetings to a larger audience.
President Wilson Davis says the board's twice-monthly meetings should be televised on the same channel that airs the Keokuk City Council meetings.
He says Keokuk residents should know the issues before the district, the thoughts of each school board member on a given topic, and the process used to make decisions.
Doctor Davis says the school board must develop a clear path to improve the education provided by the Keokuk School District.
Despite a four-year absense from the Keokuk School Board, Davis was unanimously approved as its new president.
He previously served on the panel for nine years, much of that time as president.
Board member Julia Logan was also nominated to serve but she declined.
Davis was one of four Keokuk School Board members to take the oath of office, joining incumbent Brent Gatton and newcomers Tom Gardner and Bruce Dunek.
Vice President Sandy Stark will continue in that role after defeating board member Tyler McGhghy 5-2.
The Keokuk School District thanked three former board members for their service prior to the new board being seated: President Jim Vandenberg, Brian Richardson, and Dave Barrett.
