Biggsville, IL – Students at the West Central high school in Biggsville held a rally to present more than 600 letters to area legislators.
The proposal came from Superintendent Ralph Grimm, who wants the legislature to speed plans for the four-laning of Route 34.
He says one person was killed in front of the school last May, and several students have been injured in accidents on the road.
He says more than 5,000 vehicles a day pass the school. However, proposals for a four-lane Route 34 would follow a route about one mile south of the school.
The letters asking for action in improving Route 34 were given to State Senator John Sullivan and State Representative Rich Myers.
He said he suggested the letter campaign as a real-life opportunity to interact with legislators.
