Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk School Board is still looking for offers on 3 acres of land along Main Street where the district's middle school once stood.
The board voted 4-3, last night, against selling the property to Twin Rivers Storage for its original offer of $350,000.
The vote comes several days after the company rejected the district's counter-offer of $500,000.
Board President Wilson Davis, who voted for the sale, says the decision to keep the property on the market could work out for the district if Keokuk sees some economic growth.
The board discussed the proposed use of the property, potential tax impact, architectural design, and the district's facilities needs during the roughly one-hour meeting.
The price on the vacant lot has dropped by more than $300,000 in the last few years.
