Monmouth, IL – The Warren County Board will be asked to approve leasing some county land for a small-scale wind farm.
Western Illinois Economic Development Partnership director Joleen Willis says the firms plan three turbines on county-owned land south of Monmouth along Route 67.
She says the location is optimal because it's near a McDonough Power Cooperative substation that can take the power generated and feed it into the system.
She says the original plan calls for installation of three turbines, but five more might be built later.
Each turbine would produce about 2.5 megawatts at full capacity.

Willis says the turbine could be a test site for further wind development in the county.
She says the firm plans to put up a meteorology tower which would record wind speeds and direction for at least one year.
Warren County leaders have discussed a possible large-scale wind farm which would be at the northeast corner of the county, spreading into Knox and Mercer counties.
