Macomb, IL – McDonough County Public Transportation will begin transporting patients to out-of-town doctor's appointments Monday.
Director Gary Ziegler says the service will use the same mini-vans that are used for on-demand service within McDonough County.
He says the vans are for people who have no other way of traveling to out-of-town appointments.
One van will be scheduled for the trips, so Ziegler says people needing a ride should schedule as far in advance as possible.
The service will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The vans will take patients to patients within about a two-and-one-half hour radius from Macomb.
This will include Iowa City, Burlington, Galesburg, Peoria, Springfield and Quincy.
Patients can schedule a ride by calling the central dispatch center at 309-837-RIDE.

The vans can be used to transport veterans to Veterans Administration Facilities in Iowa City. However, Veterans Assistance also offers van rides to appointments there.
The vans are the ones used for on-demand service for the elderly and disabled within the county.
Drivers for the out-of-town trips will be taken from the list of substitute drivers maintained by MCPT.
