Keokuk, IA – A not-for-profit group in Lee County hopes to keep older computers out of landfills by using them for educational purposes.
Director Eric Brown says Tri-States Free Geek will accept computers, monitors, and related equipment.
He says everything will be tested to see what can be refurbished and given away and what must be recycled.
Brown, who is a Keokuk High School teacher, says the idea is to keep computers out of landfills and to give his students a hands-on learning experience.
The Fort Madison School District recently gave Tri-States Free Geek roughly 500 computers.
