Macomb, IL – The Macomb school district levy will be just under the tax cap limits for the coming year.
Superintendent Alene Reuschel says the district will ask for just over $11.4 million dollars in local tax money for the coming year.
She says the increase is 4.99 percent more than last year's levy.
She says two factors limit the amount of new tax money the district can ask for. ds
One is the PTEL, or property tax caps. The other is that parts of the district are in an Enterprise Zone or a TIF District, which limits the taxes that can be levied against the property.
Reuschel says new property could increase the assessed valuation of the school district, but the schools cannot capture all of the increase.

The levy for 2007 will be $11,408,410.
The levy for the current year, 2006, was $10,866,699.
Because the levy increase is less than five percent, the district will not have to hold a truth in taxation hearing.
