Macomb, IL – The McDonough County Board will have one month to look over proposals for a county administrator and decide what comes next.
Board member Linda Jani headed the committee that was charged with coming up with a possible list of duties for the post, and then composing a job description.
She says some believe creating the position cold streamline county operations and eliminate some of the mistakes that have cost the county money.
However, some county board members believe the county does not need an administrator and could not afford one.
Board chairman Scot Schwerer says he does not intend to call the issue up for a vote. However, he said he would not prevent discussion if a board member asks for consideration of the administrator's post.

The proposal was approved by the Human Relations and Planning Committee two days before the county board meeting.
That's why it was given to board members so they could study it before possible discussion at next month's meeting.
The position would be in charge of administering county activities under board policy.
The description calls for an administrator to work closely with both elected officers and with department heads named by the county.
