SRC Buys Land for Rushville Center

Rushville, IL – Spoon River College has purchased a half-acre site for its new Rushville Attendance Center.

Trustee Linda Butler of Rushville says the location adjoining the Cooperative Extension Center offers the chance for many joint programs.

The site is also near Rushville's High School and Middle School. She says this will offer the chance for dual-credit programs, as well as programs in cooperation with the Extension Service.

She says the current facilities at 229 W. Washington. The new location will be on Maple Avenue.

More information:

The $52,000 purchase price will be paid by general obligation bonds the college issued in 2006.

Construction of the new facility would be paid for by the same funding source.

Preliminary plans call for a building with at least three classrooms and a larger general purpose room.

Wiring to take full advantage of computers and other technology will be paramount in the design of the new structure.

St. Louis-based Control Technology Solutions holds the contract to provide a feasibility study and provide an artist's conception of what the new building might look like.

Butler says the land was purchased from the Schuyler County Extension Education Building Association.

She says if schedules work out, SRC could break ground in the spring and have its first classes in the new Rushville Attendance Center in the fall of 2008.
