Carthage, IL – Hancock County transportation planners decided a bus service is not their biggest need.
A committee with members from service providers and the Hancock County Board is evaluating to see what sort of transportation system the county should have.
Membr Stephen Finney says the paramount need is some way to get people to a doctor's offices or to the hospital for tests and treatment.
He says some of the service providers offer limited transportation. He says others have vehicles they are not using because they can't afford to keep them in service.
The county board has approved seeking a $161,000 state transportation grant.

Finney says the committee will survey what vehicles are available in the county, and what new ones would be needed to provide non-emergency medical service.
Some service providers offer limited transportation to the disabled or to senior citizens.
The goal will be to coordinate the agencies so they can take advantage of grants which will be offered by a nine-county transportation group that will have access to more grant funds.
