Rushville, IL – Some unexpected expenses will delay the adoption of the Schuyler County budget.
Board chairman Brian Peak says the $2.3 million proposal for general fund spending must be revised.
He says a generator at the jail gave out. That could cost up to $24,000.
In addition, the state Fire Marshall wants an alarm system installed in the courthouse. That will cost an estimated $16,000.
Peak says the tentative budget was already $80,000 or $90,000 in the red.
He says the Finance Committee will look for other possible spending cuts, and re-write the budget to include the new expenses in the county's appropriations plan.
The county board has scheduled a special meeting Nov. 26 to consider the budget.

The county's fiscal year begins Dec. 1.
The county is required to adopt a budget by that date.
Peak says the board plans no new taxes to cover the shortfall, but will dip into its planned end-of-year reserves.
